NameStylish lets visitors contribute a stylish version of a name, like or dislike names other people have added, and copy any of them. This page sets out, in plain terms, what happens to a name you submit: what is checked before it is accepted, what is shown publicly, what is counted and for how long, and how to have a name taken down. It describes how the site actually works today, not how we would like it to.

What a community name is
When you style a name with the generator, a Community names list for that name appears below the results, with a box to contribute your own version. A contributed name is public: anyone who styles the same name can see it, copy it and vote on it. There is no account, so a contribution is not linked to a profile on this site.
What is checked before a name is accepted
Every submission goes through the same checks, in this order, before it is sent anywhere:
- Plain text only. HTML and markup are stripped; only text is kept.
- A length cap of 30 characters. Anything longer is cut to 30.
- An injection filter. Submissions containing web addresses or code-like fragments (for example
http:,script,select) are refused outright. - A blocked-word filter. Names containing sexual content, slurs, gambling terms or harassment are refused. The filter reads styled letters as the plain letters they represent, so writing a blocked word in a fancy alphabet, small capitals or leetspeak does not get it through. Short words are matched only as whole words, so that ordinary names containing them are not caught.
The same blocked-word check is applied again whenever community names are displayed, so a name that slipped in before a word was added is hidden from the list rather than shown.
What the filters cannot do: no automatic filter reliably catches impersonation of a real person, personal data such as a phone number written creatively, or a word we have not anticipated. For those, the takedown route below is how we deal with it.
Where a submitted name goes
Name generation and the community lists run on a third-party service that the generator depends on. A name you submit is sent to that service together with your IP address, which it uses to attribute and rate-limit contributions. We do not show that IP address anywhere on this site, and the community list does not expose who added a name. The privacy policy sets out what is collected and for how long in full.
Likes, dislikes and copy counts
Likes and dislikes on a community name are forwarded to the same service, which keeps the running totals shown next to each name. This site also keeps its own daily counters of copies, likes and dislikes per name, and deletes each day’s counters after 35 days.
Two honest caveats. First, copy counts only accumulate when a copy can be matched to a name the service already knows, so copies of the fixed lists on our guide pages are not reliably counted. Second, because of that, the homepage labels its featured names as Editor’s picks rather than showing copy numbers, and its ranking by copies stays hidden until there is real data to rank. We would rather show nothing than a number that is not true.
Rate limits
To stop automated flooding, each visitor’s browser can obtain at most 10 request tokens in any 15-minute window, and each token expires after an hour. Ordinary use never comes close; a script submitting names in bulk is stopped.
What not to submit
- A real person’s name presented as if it were theirs, or a name designed to impersonate a player, streamer or public figure.
- Personal information: phone numbers, addresses, account IDs or passwords — your own or anyone else’s.
- Sexual content, slurs, gambling or betting promotion, or harassment of any person or group.
- Links, promotions or anything that is not a name.
Stylish characters themselves are never the problem: a decorated name is ordinary Unicode text. Why styling alone does not get a name banned in a game, and what does, is covered in can a stylish name get you banned.
How to have a name removed
If a community name shows your personal information, impersonates you, or is offensive, tell us through the contact page with the name it appeared under and the exact text. We remove names that break the rules above; because the lists are held by the generation service, removal can take a short while to show everywhere. You do not need to prove who you are to report an offensive name.
Changes to this page
